Hi all, I'm currently working on the new Fate space opera  RPG called Starblazer. I'd love to know if you've thought of any sci-fi related ideas for Fate or used them in your campaign. I've already seen some great concepts for everything from mecha to Traveller based Fate games.

I'm also interested in general GM tool box ideas that you think would be great for a sci-fi interpretation of Fate, such as world or alien generators, plot lists, etc. I want to make this a GM's dream and so anything you feel would be useful fire away!

There are some neat Dogfight rules for SotC on the Evil Hat wiki.

They could be ported over to Starblazer.

Also, some space combat in fiction and art is represented as "naval" in nature.  There should be a set of guidelines that take that into account.

Hi Joystick,

Is it about the '70s Starblazers anime series, or is it just called Starblazers?

It's about a British Sci-Fi comic called Starblazer, not the anime series.

I had briefly considered doing a FATE setting with a variety of race and occupation packages.  I wouldn't mind seeing something for alien races and alien race creation that includes one or more Aspects and skills to represent the flavor of that race.

Ah, the "s" suffix makes all the difference in the world. I'll have to see if I can check out that comic.

(Note to self - read & reply to posts after my first cup of joe in the morning...)

Hi there are plenty of alien races in Starblazer - both distant and inscrutable and more involved in the story lines. There'll definetly be a fun alien race generator in the GM tool kit. We're include a lot of suggested aspects for new players especially as they can be hard to come up with, plus Starblazer Legends (the supposed adventures characters took part in during character creation) will suggest aspects and skills relevant to the comic story it's based on.

I'm also going down the route of having special career linked aspects that unlock special stunts.

Yes I've seen the dog fight rules, good ideas there and other people have been discussing large ship and fleet combat. I'm actually quite swamped with great ideas and suggestions, which is a nice place to be!

Actually you're quite right, Starblazer's ship combat is very much along those lines...watch this space, thanks for the comments so far guys, keep 'em coming!
