I've been working on unWritten for some time now. I'm in the alpha/beta/whatever play test phase right now. So, I'm trying to do a few things here. I'm trying to get involved in this community, which is very difficult for me to do (I suck at forums, I'm a troglodyte!). I'm trying to get people to know about my game a bit. And finally, I'm trying to get some help with it. So, here is a question or three for you.

What do people think about a game that, when played, provided the same experience as reading a book or watching a movie for all of the players. Does that interest anybody? If so, what about it appeals to you? If not, what doesn't?

Thanks alex

Hello Alex

I've just realized that none of your contributions seem to tell about a time where you played. Your playtest posts seem to have grown out of your experience of the game, but I haven't been able to read an actual account of play. You tend to drift to explaining how your game is intended to work, rather than describing how it did work (for example here). Before I can answer your questions, show (don't tell, as they say in writing) me what it's like to play the game!
Regards,
Christoph

Okay, I've tried doing actual plays in the past, both here and at story-games. I've looked for actual plays, but I can't find any... I know, I know, they're all over the place... remember, I'm a troglodyte. All I see are stalactites and stalagmites in my living room! Could someone send me a link to a good actual play post or two? I'll look around on the forge again. But perhaps some are better then others?

I don't know what the offical standard is if there is one. I always did as far as playtesting

Beta 1 - whatever

"Like reading a book" or "like watching a movie" I could see meaning virtually anything, so I'll list one thing I'd like:

When I'm watching a movie, I like to forget about my body sitting down and the screen I'm viewing, and really immerse myself within the movie, so it becomes my reality for its duration.

A game that did that would make me really happy, and I think I'm not the only one.  "Immersion" has remained an elusive target for years, though.

Thanks for your replies. I told you I suck at this forum shit. Anyway, here is an actual play of my stuff. Tell me what you think. And, if from that you can approach my question in this topic.

Thanks alex
