I don't know how important this is, but it's a feature request:

Ordering the Independent Game Forums by activity. It's a judgement call on what "activity" means, but I'd love to see the busier forums closer to the top. It seems a shame that Riddle of Steel, with a zillion posts, is so far from the top of the screen.

As the person whose forum is listed first, I'm obviously against this. ;)

But seriously, I don't like that idea. I like knowing where the forum I want is located. I know Sorcerer's the second forum, so I scroll down a tad and click. I like that a lot.

Good point. There is the fact that moving forums would be frustrating. I personally visit the Indie Game Forums less often than the other forums, so was recently surprised to find a Riddle of Steel forum AND that it had a zillion posts.

Ron Edwards

Hi there,

Ordering the forums by activity creates competition, and there's already enough of that present to bug me.

Also, less substantively, I want usage of the Forge to be topically interest-driven, not "oooh, that's popular" driven - at least to whatever extent the former is possible.

The order of the forums may change due to some arcane moderator criterion, some day, but it won't have anything to do with the popularity or coolness or whatever issue. At present, we just pop new ones in near the bottom in a kind of structure-less way.

Zak, you're doomed to using the little arrow icon on the bottom left of the browser window ...

Best,
Ron

Thanks for offering your reasons and dooming me to spending an extra half-second of mouse-activity. It's a good kind of doom.

I also respect the anti-competition sentiment. I respect it a lot.

Mike Holmes

I like Riddle being at the bottom. It means that more people are scrolling past all the other fora to get to it. Which means more exposure for all.
