Questions about armor
«
on:

So I'm making my first character and I get to the equipment part and I'm rather surprised to see there's only leather, chain, and plate. What about boiled leather, scale, ring, lamellar, etc?
Does the weight for chain take the underlying quilt into account?
And is "plate" fully articulated plate armor, or is it plate and mail? If it is plate and mail, does the weight for plate take the underlying mail and quilt into account?
And I can't seem to find information on what body parts are covered by various types of armor. Did I miss it or is it not there?
Thanks.

Hey, Shane.
Leather is assumed to be Boiled leather. Scale and ring would use the same stats as chain, lamellar is primarily eastern, and I confess to knowing close to jack about it. TROS is primarily western, so I didn't think it would be missed.

Of course. It would be nuts to wear chain without the gambeson beneath.

Assumed to be fully articulated plate harness of the Gothic era, give or take. "Plate and mail" would have the same CP loss values as the plate listed in the core rules (or maybe one less), but would offer 4pt. protection to some areas and 6pt. to others.

You didn't miss it, it's not in there. Why? accurate representation of that sort of thing would be complicated. We have since thought of a great way to do it, and that will be presented later either as a PDF or as part of the Flower of Battle in spring. For now use your best jedgement--the fact that you're familiar with a lot of these terms proves you're qualified to some degree to make that kind of a call.

Gidday,
The armor rules for tRoS are a little extrapolative in the main rulebook. I have not seen the new edition yet, and there may be changes in there, but AFAIK the updated armor rules will be in "The FLower of Battle" which Jake is working on at the moment.
However, if you troll around this forum a little, you will find an excellent article someone posted about different forms of armor etc. I don't remember where it is but do a search and you'll find it.
Brian.
[edit] Damn.. Jake posted his reply while I was typing up mine :-) Oh well, now you have it from the horses mouth.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Yup, I can make up something on my own. I got most of my armor "learning" from HârnMaster, which is a much more granular system than TROS, so it'll be a challenge to think of scale and ring as having the same stats as chain, but I'm pretty sure I'll get over it. :)
Oh boy, can't wait to get Flower of Battle!
