This post should have gone up a long time ago but, considering the heat that Clinton's catching over at RPGnet,* I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the time and effort Clinton puts into this site. The "entitlement" issue that was brought up is a good one. People who frequent free sites have no right to bitch about content. Some people will argue this but those people, IMO, think far too highly of themselves (even if they love to deny that fact).

Is this post off-topic? I don't think so. I think the powers that be behind this site don't get the props they should. So, once again, mad thanks to you, Clinton. But don't ever let this site cause a fight again. ;)

*If you're really that interested, just pop over to the RPGnet Open forum. The thread won't be hard to find.

Hell yes. I'm wondering the Indie Game forum owners should have to cough up some kind of fee? Something to help Clinton's $70+/month hosting bill.

I mean, with just ten forums, that's 7 bucks/month. Is that so bad?

I try not to miss a chance to say thanks, so - What Jason said.  There's a lot more I could add, but  . . .

How 'bout this - the Forge rocks, and it takes real effort, energy, money and persistence from Clinton, Ron and even from the Forge members to make that happen.  Especially from Clinton on the Web/techie side (which, you may have noticed, has been a real issue of late).

Mad props.  And I already chimed in about the fight thing, so clearly Jason is 100% right.

Gordon (I can't believe I typed "mad props."  Isn't there a law about folks over 35 sayin' stuff like that?)

Posolutely.  The Forge is the best gaming resource I've ever had.  Thanks, Clinton.  It's a pleasure to be part of this community.

Best,

Hey, folks, if you want to help out monthly costs for the Forge, then donate! There's a spot right on the main page to do so.  Or buy some tee's or totes from the Forge's Cafepress store!

Hey,

Me, on the phone with Clinton on Thursday: "Yikes, slow!"

Clinton: "Yeah, [explains horrible stuff]. Figure we may shut down 'til Monday ..."

Me: "Aw, man ... guess we gotta."

And today, all is swimmingly fast.

Thanks, Clinton.

Best,
Ron

Thanks, guys. I'll have a very big update Monday on the status of the Forge.

I'll go ahead and spill the beans now, though: I expect the Forge to start paying for itself. I don't mean subscriptions or any such nonsense, though.

Starting next week sometime, you'll be able to get a domain name like mygame.indie-rpgs.com. This'll include somewhere between 20-50MB of space (looking into it) and the ability to run CGI and PHP, and an FTP account, as well as e-mail addresses at both mygame.indie-rpgs.com and just indie-rpgs.com. There will be a charge for this, and it will be lower than most hosting out there - I'm thinking $6/month, or $60/year.

In addition, you can just get an e-mail address at indie-rpgs.com. This is $24/year.

I'll be working more on this and provide tons of details Monday. Thanks!

I know it's a "me too" post. But after being all civil w/ said person on RPGnet, Clinton deserves some love here.
