Not exactly publishing, but it'll do.

Given a choice and all other factors (cost, delivery, etc) equal, who would you as a consumer purchase from, the author or the retailer?  As an author?  Is it good to send money directly to the author, knowing they'll get a larger cut, or is it better to purchase (or order) through a retailer, supporting your FLGS and creating "buzz" about the product?

Opinions?

I prefer to buy from retailers. Even though it means less money per copy than buying from the actual author, it also helps promote the game in what I feel is a longer run. Publicity, etc. Plus, I'm one of those guys that tries to support their FLGS.

I would have to say from the author for me.  Of course this is mainly due to the fact that I am sick and tired of the two FLGS customers fighting back and forth.

I used to be pro one shop but when the owner decided that he needs to tell everyone about the stuff I buy all the time it kind of pissed me off.

Anyways back on topic.  I also prefer buying from the author because you then have a bit more of a connection to them.  This seems to greatly help when you send them an email asking a few questions or even when sending in submissions and whatnot.

Just my two cents.

For what it's worth, I'd prefer to buy from the author. The creator should be the one to receive the worth of their product. How they choose to divide that money out to other parties is up to them.
