The thread about offence got me thinking. Let's say you(as the seneschal) were a Gol Captain with some 20 Gols grunts under your command. One day, Evil Villain(TM) orders you to kill 5 very skilled and well equipped PC's in any way you may see fit. Failure would lead to painful extermination.
How would you attempt to kill them?
This thread is meant to spawn some ideas that will make for more varied Gols(i.e. standard evil guy) and encounters with said creature.

Rockslide. Common tactic, and extremely effective.

A mixture of shield-bearers, some spearmen, and lots of archer. A couple of archers is likely to incapacitate one skilled adventurer.
And an ambush... And try to get them whilst they're camped... And make scary noises...

Oohh, this is a fun thread.
Well, with 20 guys I could have one heck of a group of archers. Or, since I'm the Gol Captain and don't care about my guys I could just say "go get 'em boys," though they might not like that idea. I think 20 could do it, especially if the PCs were cornered and the Gols had longer weapons.
You could also send half or less in with weapons and have the other 12 or so throwing rocks to distract the PCs. CP is everything.
Sorry I don't sound so creative...

Well, you outnumber them 4 to 1.
I'd suggest slaughtering them while they sleep.
That's generally a good tactic.

Engage in a blood ritual with a Gol Shaman to have worm-demons erupt from their chests!
Fight from a defensive position like the top of a wall.
Fire! Sun-Tsu say fire can be your best friend. Set fire at night in a circle around the characters, and kill them one at a time as they try to escape.
Pit traps with pungi stakes! Any fool can make one.
Nets from hoseback ala
Planet of the Apes
. Hard to fight entagled in a net.
Make them fight with their backs to a body of water. As they give ground, they slip, slide, and generally lose combat effectiveness as they end up in the water. If the Gols lose efectiveness as well, no big deal. They have more to give as they don't have to make terrain rolls to avoid spittling their pools. In fact, this principle is always a good one fighting against a better foe. The less dice rolled the more random the result, and the more likely the lesser foe will be to get a lucky hit. So fight in a blizzard! Once the character goes down he's not getting up again.

Let's not forget to give some of the Gols reach weapons to do leg trips. Slaughter works easier when your opponents are laid out for you.
BTW, Jake, I'm assuming that prone combatants cannot make terrain rolls to reduce the number of opponents, correct?
