new post flagging

I've noticed that while new messages posted while I'm at a machine are marked red, new messages from session to session are not

I assume that the system currently uses a cookie for comparison between sessions -- unfortunately (for me) I often use different terminals for access, each of which is wiped regularly

would it be possible to store "last access" timestamps on user accounts rather than cookies?

(no biggie if you can't, but I thought I'd at least ask)

I'm experiencing a related but different problem. Folders are no longer resetting to Unread after a session. Whether I read them or not, log in or log out, they stay pink. Odd. My browser is set to accept cookies.
