Thog use Macintosh. Thog want use combat simulator. Combat simulator no run on Macintosh. THOG RAGE!!!

Whoa! Easy big fella! Anyone out there know if the support programs from the website have been translated, and where I could get them. Thog dosn't have Virtual PC and I can't find my tranquilzers. It's becoming a very tense situation.
List of people to kill. (So far.)

4. Ron Edwards
5. Ron Edwards (once isn't enough)

If you're on the list, you know why.

I believe Brian's answer to this would probably be the same as with the chargen. He doesn't own a Mac, and so cannot code for it. (At least, that's what I think he said..)

I'm happy to write the CharGen, Combat Sim and Damage Tables (plus lots of other stuff) for the Mac, as soon as someone buys me a Mac.

Until then, I'm afraid you're stuck with a PC emulator. I believe there are a few free ones for the Mac, but I could be wrong.

I don't code in Java. Someone buy me a "learn Java in 21 days" or similar and we'll talk :-)

Brian,

What did you write the combat simulator in?

There are some good cross-platform graphics libraries - if it's in C++, it could be ported pretty easily.

Delphi, which could best be described as Pascal on steriods.

I have a couple of friends who are far bigger code-heads than me (and who know Delphi better than I know my arm), I'll have a word with them about the portability, although again, I still couldn't do it without a Mac to test on.

Yes, us poor Mac people.  We make your graphics you know! :)

I'll bet you have a Betamax VCR at home as well... :-)

JUST KIDDING! It is NOT my intention to start a PC vs. Mac war.

Brian.

(Because we all know the PC would win anyway... *grin*).

Ha! Macs are like ninjas! Ninjas kick ass! PC's are like knights. Knights kick ass to, but not as much as ninjas. Ninjas kick ass! Windows is like the Black Death and kills everything it touches. Which is why I'm glad macs are like ninjas, 'cause ninjas are in Japan and the Black Death is in Europe where the knights are. Ya!

Hey, Brian -- About how recent a computer would you need?  I mean, the combat sim and chargen programs seem to have a pretty low overhead, and I can probably scrounge up a computer that will run them for around $100 american... Which I might actually be able to swing...

can't believe he is actually thinking about this seriously--

Uh.. heh. Actually I figured I was safe making that offer since I didnt think anyone would take me up on it :-)

The truth is that would never work; you would have to get it to New Zealand (which would not be cheap) and then the power supply would be wrong (we use 240v down here) etc etc.

Also, I know absolutely nothing about Mac's, I haven't used one since University and that was several years ago, I figure they're probably better by now.

This weekend a friend of mine and I are going to have a stab at porting the Combat Sim and CharGen over to Unix, using a Linux version of Delphi, but I honestly have to say that a Mac version is pretty unlikely, even if I had a Mac to play with (although there is a version of Pascal for the Mac that I might be able to port it over to, admittedly).

Sorry guys. If it helps, I'm pretty confident they'll work in a PC emulator - they don't do any direct hardware calls or anything silly like that.

Well...if you become interested in compiling it for the Mac you could get yourself an emulator:

Behold a free Mac 68k emulator for Unix:

BasiliskII

And...

The Win32 Port

The Mac OS of that time period is also free, and it's probably what you were exposed to in the university (link at the bottom of the Basilisk II homepage).

...and for the other shoe/foot/thingy...

Wolfsong,

Behold a free PC emulator (it has a Mac OS X build):

Bochs

I can confirm the functionality of Basilisk II on Linux, - works real spiff.
I cannot vouch for the win32 port of Basilisk II, nor have I experienced Bochs yet.

Does Unix stuff run on Jaguar?

Well, it ain't rpg related, but...

Depends on the software.
