While it sounds like the character this guy plays isn't very fleshed out, he does have a character kernel here: his character is someone who in the real world would be obsessed with his own perfection, as expressed in his martial arts.

There is a character in The Seven Samurai* whose raison d'etre is perfection of his swordsmanship. He's a very cold, distant personality, who has almost no use for social interaction or relationships. Instead he is on a kind of spiritual quest to acheive perfection, or die in pursuit of that perfection.

That character might be a good one to look to for this guy. Now of course, you have to answer questions about his faith, and passions... and why he might be that way. Most "seekers" are being driven to seek, and someone seeking at that level of intensity must have a powerful drive. The character in the movie seemed to be seeking death.

Cheers,

Chris

Split from this thread, which was really old. Please don't post in old, quiet threads (this one had been dormanty for 4 months), but instead start a new thread and link to the old one.

Thanks,
Brian.

A year and four months, Brian.  Those posts were from 2002.

So they were. I thought the thread number (2600 or so) seemed a bit low for 4 months ago :-)

Even more reason to let it sleep then...

Sorry, I just noticed the thread, not the date. Why not delete this one--the question I answered is probably long dead anyway.

We don't tend to delete stuff around here. Besides, Jake would kill me if I deleted anything that mentioned a Kurosawa film... :-)
