I'm very new to the Indie RPG scene.  In fact, I found this forum while researching for an RPG idea I got, my first.  I don't know what to call it. I was thinking along the lines of:

IT CAME FROM PLANET X!

MACHINE MEN FROM BEYOND THE MOON!

or something like The Twilight Limits or The Outer Zone

By now I think you got an idea of what I'm shooting for. An RPG based on old B Movies and the late night serials of the 50s & 60s. Where men are men, women are women, and that tree has been exposed to cosmic radiation & has aquired a taste for blood!

I already have some inkling for character classes/archetypes/jobs/templates/what-have-you, such as: Local Cop, Garage/Basement Scientist, Reporter, Lab Assistant, Student, Whiz Kid, Athelete, Starchild, Damsel/Dude in Distress, Unlucky Motorist, G-Man, Soldier, Lovable Oaf

Also got some ideas for powers, like: Camera Tricks, Dumb Luck, Pseudoscience, and Bravery.  Maybe magic.

It's the type of world where aliens inhabit every planet in the solar system, beings from other dimensions defy every law of physics, radiation creates monsters, robots made to serve man seach for love but find only hate, and all have a jonesin' for human women.

GASP! To the sight of GIANT ANTS mutated by science!
SCREAM! At the horror of shapeless monsters who desire the SLAVERY OF MAN!
WONDER! At the man-made cities of Mars in the year TWO THOUSAND AND THREE!

Like I said I'm brand new to this thing, does anybody have any ideas to help flesh this out?

Questions?  Comments?  Rotten fruit?

Have you seen the game called It Came From the Late, Late, Late Show? Pretty obscure, but seems to have some similarities to what you're doing. Also in a different genre, but with some similarities, is the game Extreme Vengeance. You can probably get a lot of milage if you can track either of these down.

Cool premise!

Aside from Mike's suggestions, you may also want to try perusing B Movie: Scared Stiff for ideas to steal. One of the most notable is the concept of 'backwards attributes,' where your intrinsic qualities are bad things: ignorance, clumsiness, and so forth. I believe it's available free on the web somewhere; a good googling should turn it up in no time.
