hey there,

while converting the Midnight setting for TROS I came across their Covenant Items which I thought were pretty nifty, even for d20.

Basically its a magic item that releases its powers gradually as the person who wields it gets more powerful.  However in moving this across to TROS I thought back to magical items as they were discussed here and immediately thought of item SAs.

I need some feedback on my ideas here, whether or not this stuff makes sense or is too ubermunch..

Quote
Covenant Items
Instead of imbuing Covenant items with special magical properties, TROS versions will instead carry certain Spiritual Attributes.  The exact nature of these SAs is up to the individual Senseschal and bonuses should not be conferred unless the character acts accordingly.  Covenant Items are able to have up to three  SAs and divide 10 points amongst them.   Should the character choose to change their SAs to match that of the Covenant Item, the item’s SA total value should increase by 2 points for each SA that the character convert to match the Covenant Item.  These additional points can be divided up as the Seneschal sees fit.

Or

Covenant Items
Instead of imbuing Covenant items with special magical properties, TROS versions will instead carry certain Spiritual Attributes.  Each Covenant Item has up to three empty SAs.  As soon as the item comes into the possession of someone it adopts the owner’s highest value SA and attains a score of 2 in that same SA.  This SA is used in the same way that the normal SA would, giving bonuses to actions taken in the pursuit of that SA’s defined characteristic.   It should be noted however, that Covenant item SAs cannot be spent to increase a wielder’s attributes, proficiencies or sorcerous abilities permanently.   Once a wielder’s SA is maxed out at 5 the Item increases its SA score to 4 and takes on the wielder’s next highest value SA.  This continues until such time that all three SAs are defined and reach a maximum of  four each.

Or

Covenant Items
A mixture of the above two with one permanent SA defined prior to being possessed by someone, and the other two defined by the player’s SAs.

cheers

Perhaps Sirogit's demonic SA's and/or his house-rules for magic weapons/intelligent weapons can help you a bit more.
