Writer looking to contribute fiction
Hello Game Designers!
My name is Rich. I write fiction in the fantasy/science fiction genre. I'm currently working on a novel, but I am still interested in writing short fiction. If you'd like samples of my writing, you can check out the Burning Wheel revised edition, where three of my short stories appear. Also, a story of mine is in the The Path of Spite (a supplement for Burning Wheel available as a free download here.) Some games have a lot of fiction, some have little to none, but if you find yourself in need of a writer, please drop me an email... even if you only need a paragraph or two! I'll do my best to work with you to convey the feeling you want and get the flavor of your game across to your readers.

Hey Rich, welcome to the Forge!
Are you looking to just get your name out there, or are you looking for payment? If you're looking for payment, what are your rates?
I don't know how many creators here would be interested, but I am, if the price is right. I can write some pretty moving fiction (I'm told) if the mood strikes, but the mood has to strike. If you're more reliable in your writing quality, then I'd be willing to discuss terms.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome!
Sorry, I should have made that clear in my first post. I love to get paid as much as the next guy, but really my goal at this point is to get my name out there and get writing credits. So I'd be willing to work with people based on what they are able/willing to provide. I am perfectly willing to write for people in exchange for being credited for my work inside the finished product. A copy of the game would be nice too. Anything above and beyond that is welcomed, but not necessary.
As for discipline in writing, it's taken me many years to do so, but I have gotten over the "I can only write when the mood hits" problem. When I have an assignment, I can churn it out in a reasonable amount of time, and I can and have worked under some pretty tight deadlines, producing very good results.
As far as the working relationship goes, you as the designer of course has the final say over what goes in your game, but I would prefer to do rewrites according to your editing notes that just have you change things before publishing. I understand that there are some cases where this is necessary (mostly because of time), but it's not my preferred way of doing things.
I had a great time working with Luke, and I'm a big fan of a lot of the games that have come out of the forge. I'd love to be a part of getting great indie games out there. So, if you're still interested, go ahead and drop me a line!

Hey,
I can personally vouch for Rich. I gave him crazy assignments and crazy deadlines, and he turned his pieces around very quickly. More importantly, they were nice to read, too! Rich accepted my direction and editing with grace and aplomb, and he swallowed a "we need a complete rewrite in two hours" and turned it into gold. Yay Rich!
I can also vouch for bringing in a writer to add bit of color and flavor to the books: I like to write the odd fiction piece now and again, but when I was in in the thick of writing Burning Wheel Revised last year, I was too deep into the rules to think about prose fiction. Rather than churning out loving pap, I got me a writer. Made it much easier on me, knowing I wouldn't have to switch gears and could just focus on editing the rules. And it made the books much nicer to have a couple of interesting short fiction pieces to break up the monotony of lists and descriptions.

Richard, I like what I see, I am working with a partner on the game Lost to this Mists, and although publishing is a bit away, we are compiling our play test document and need a short story to capture the spirit of the world well enough to provide a starting point for DMs, and if we like what we see there we would certainly have like to have you write for the actual book, you would be accredited and provided a copy of the game, whether that will be a pdf or a book is as of now unclear. My topic for LttM is http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=18854.0 while that does not contain all the info for my setting, it is a good starting point, you would be provided with a copy of the playtest packet to see what it is exactly that your writing will accompany, and I will gladly answere any questions!
