Profiling, spring 2003
Hello,
This is a fun Forge thing that goes on two or three times a year. It goes like this:
What are the last three role-playing games that you actually, really played?
What three role-playing games, out of ALL the ones you've EVER played, have you enjoyed the most?
What three role-playing games that you have NOT played would you most like to try at the moment?
So for me, at present, it goes like this:
Last played: Tunnels & Trolls, Trollbabe, Criminal Element
Most enjoyed: Sorcerer, Hero Wars, Violence Future
Want to try: Donjon, Tomb Reavers, Pocket Universe
More rules or "rules":
1) No freebies or extras, as in, "Game X, Game Y, and ... and Game Z and Game A!!" Three each, no more and no less.
2) Time is irrelevant. If the last three games you played were ten years ago, they still count.
3) Don't comment on other people's profile or the games in this thread. Start up a thread if you'd like, although choose your forum carefully, or send a private email.
4) If you have no objection, it'd be nice to know people's real first names if you don't use it already. There's absolutely no obligation to do so, but if it's OK with you, just sign your post with it.
5) For people who played a ton of GenCon one-shots, or if people are wondering about convention/demo play in general, they do count if you want them to, otherwise, skip'em.
The previous Profiling threads were:
Profiling fall 2002
Latest Profiling
Profiling
Profiling strikes again - everybody play!
... and there was one before that, too, but damned if I can find it.
Best,
Ron

The Sweetest Fruit: Mage: the Ascension, Unknown Armies, Shadowrun.
The Ardent Desire: Nobilis, Puppetland, Wushu.
I've restricted Ardent Desire to games that are, by the author's statement or implication, in a playable form. There are also a whole pile of games, my own and those of others, that I'm dying to play, but aren't complete in that way.

Most enjoyed:I used to really enjoy Warhammer. I used to refer to the Warhammer World as D&D done right.
I have fond memories of playing Villians & Vigilantes.
Probably my best memory was the first time I played Basic D&D with a group. We were playing the included adventure that was in the red box set, not a module but the sample adventure in the DM's book. Clinton describes this feeling of freedom and excitement when you first play in his introduction to Donjon. And I haven't felt it since.
Want to try: This is in direct violation of rule #1 but I do not care.
I most want to play something I had written myself. If I manage to write three games, then it doesn't violate rule #1 after all.

-Sorcerer: like many, this game is intimidating to me, but I'd really like to get into it's darkest, grittiest aspects, but in a "traditional" Sorcerer game, rather than the many unusual settings I've heard about (such as the primal one being discussed/played on Indie-Netgaming)
-Whispering Vault: I picked this up in PDF mostly to check out how it's done the same concept as my in-progress ReCoil, and it seemed like it could be a fun game.
For the "like to play" list, I only included complete games, as I'd very much like to play ReCoil, but it's not ready yet.

What are the last three role-playing games that you actually, really played?
The Riddle of Steel, D&D 3rd Edition, The Spin System
What three role-playing games, out of ALL the ones you've EVER played, have you enjoyed the most?
Hmm.. tough call. I would have to say The Riddle of Steel, Deadlands, Amber but in no particular order.
What three role-playing games that you have NOT played would you most like to try at the moment?
Hmm.. I want to at least try The Buffy RPG (although it really wouldn't be my group's thing), Sorcerer (read and absorbed many times, never got around to having more than an afternoon's splat one-shot), and maybe Continuum - although the system sucks ass from what I can see, the concept is nifty.
