[DitV] NPC's as improvised belongings

Following up on my post here in
[DitV] "Relationships Determine What Conflicts Will Be About"
, I have a question:
There is this conflict between a Dog and the town stewart's wife. The town stewart is present but he is not actively participating in the conflict. Can
both
the Dog and the wife use him as an improvised belonging?

I've never seen a Dog run out of free relationship dice.
How does a person count as a 'belonging' especially for a Dog?

Here's a related question. My Dog pulls his gun and shoots your NPC with it - I roll its dice. Later on you raise taking the gun away and I have to take the blow. Now you have your NPC shoot my Dog with his own gun. What dice do you roll, if any?

Aha. Ok, I think I understand this better. I would roll the gun as an improvised belonging for the NPC. And I see how that would work with the town stewart in my example. Thanks Vincent!
Vaxalon,
Free relationship dice do not have a bearing on the issue I'm trying to sort out -- a relationship with the NPC is simply not relevant. What I am trying to understand is exactly the issue of using an NPC as an improvised belonging in a conflict. I did not consider its potential until it was raised in an earlier topic. Check out the link in my first message above.

Oh and despite my ranting in another thread, I was actually simply posing that as a related question. There are at least three ways that I see to play it, all legit, all well within the bounds of "establish local standards."
Fred, seriously, ease off the trigger. You're posting non-sequitors.
