I was going to make a poll for this, but I guess Clinton has disabled them. Clinton: If you haven't, and if you get time (yeah right) drop me a note. I didn't see any "Add Poll" button on this, but maybe I'm just blind. :)

In any case, the question is:

Would you be interested in participating in a Forge gaming group, consisting of Forge users? The intent of such a group would be to put into practice the various theoretical ideas that are often talked about here, and to try out the many excellent looking games created by indie game designers.

If you are interested, please list your preference of venue (IRC, a Forge PBP forum, or some other format), what your preferred role is (GM, player), what indie games you've been wanting to try out, and any other comments you want to make. Of course, all this is optional. A simple "yes" would be fine. :)

If you're not interested, and you have reasons beyond "net gaming not being your thing" or somesuch, please feel free to respond and list them as well.

In the interest of kicking things off, I'll go first.

I'd rather be a player than a GM, but in a pinch I can be either, as I do have a small amount of PBEM / IRC moderating experience.

I prefer IRC to PBP games, as the format is closer to real FTF gaming, but scheduling can be a problem. An alternative can be found at http://www.playbyweb.com, which is a play-by-post service. Using this would save Clinton the work of installing a new forum. :)

The two games I've been wanting to play the most:

Shadows - Zak Arnston
Donjon Krawl - by Clinton and Zak

But I'd also love to play any of the Zombie or Redneck games that have surfaced here. :)

Hi

I too would rather play than narrate, I cutrrently am narrator for a Herowars game set in Pavis (Glorantha) thet we play weekly on IRC.
I have 7 players, so things can take some delicate balancing!

I dislike PBEM and web-forum games, but enjoy IRC (no-one will let me game in my underwear face to face!) or possibly using a MUSH/MOO as a gaming venue (I had a little success with this some time back).

As far as games: Sorcerer and Sword, maybe TROS, Inspectres, Eight, Idoru, The World, Flesh and the Devil etc etc (Heck, nearly anything!)

Gaming with some of the denizens of the Forge would be a great experience, and one that I could only manage online (I'm in Australia guys!)

[Edited to add some info about games I'm interested in.]

I'd try my hand at GM'ing a 2 Page Action Movie RPG game, or Dead Meat... I've always wanted to try a game over IRC. I'd be willing to play too.

How do you do the dice rolls when you run that? Can you run some sort of java script on all the machines like in a chat window?

I'm interested. My Mage Blade playtest seems to be falling through, so I'm putting it on a back burner for a while, to avoid burnout on something I can't even effectively test at the moment.. So this leaves me with (currently) 2 free nights a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm willing to play most any game, though I'll confess that I'm not particularly interested in zombie movie games. No offense to their authors, it's just not my thang.

I'll play anything but the aforementioned zombie games, and am particularly interested in Sorceror, Appalachia Now, InSpectres and Donjon Krawl (which is the older version, available on the web, if I remember correctly).

I am up to run Riddle of Steel, if anyone is interested in playing that. I'm still working on Sorceror, but maybe given time I could run it. Not just yet, though.

I'd be interested in playing in a PBEM of something.
However, I fear that the fact I own very few of the games discussed here will become a problem. (yes, I know, I suck... and I AM trying to correct this)

IIRC, Clinton and Ron had declared that this sort of topic was not appropriate for the Forge.

I'd like to get in on some gaming as well, but I think we're supposed to talk about it elsewhere. What we could do is set up an alternate site and request that a link be put up here to that site. I'd ask Ron and Clinton if we could be allowed to use a title something like "Forge Gaming Association" just to ally ourselves with the Forge. I imagine it would be a site dedicated to geting people to play indie games together on-line as there seems to be some enthusiasm for here.

This could easily be set up via a Yahoo Group or somesuch. It would require a willing co-ordinator to work correctly. But it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Would that make sense?

Thanks, Mike, but this topic has been dangerously on the edge of OK for a while.

The Forge is not a "group-finder" service. There are plenty of those around, and some of them very good. People have responded to this thread: if you guys want to get a game together, e-mail each other and start something up. We'd love to hear about it in Actual Play.

However, this thread is closed due to meandering, "we-should-really-do-this" sort of talk.[/quote]

I'd certainly be willing to set up a yahoogroup for Forge / indie gaming. Clinton, Ron, if you have any preferences about the name of the group, please drop me a line. Also, maybe a link to the group could be inserted into the FAQ, or put up on the site somewhere.
