Dictionary of Mu Available @ Indie Press Revolution
«
on:

Four years since the first post where the idea was spawned
, the Dictionary of Mu, a setting supplement for Sorcerer, is now available at
Indie Press Revolution
.
Inspired by Howard's Conan and Kull, Burroughs' Barsoom, the Dark Sun Boxed Set by Denning and Brown (and don't forget Brom) and the Bible.
Beautifully illustrated by Jennifer Rodgers
,
layout stylings by Luke Crane
and given the
Adept Press
Seal of Approval by Sorcerer-in-Chief, Ron Edwards.
"
These words, as I scratch them into being are mine, but soon they shall be cast out and then yours to do with as you wish. Words are faithless whores, and too much trust should not be put in them lest you catch them dancing for another's eyes. Only a spoke word, when runes combine with spit is truth. Only when you first send a word forth, across the council table, into the ears of your comrades and enemies, only then is the word loyal. Sitting on a piece of animal hide, lazy and listless, words are not to be trusted.

1. Does the Dictionary of Mu require the Sorcerer & Sword supplement or just the Sorcerer book? You might want to clarify your supplement's prerequisites in the IPR description and on your web site.
2. The PDF URL on your web site is broken. The page points to:
http://www.bobgoat.com/mu/\mu\pdf\Preview_Pages_from_Mu_r4_print.pdf
but I think the correct URL is:
http://bobgoat.com/mu/PDF/Preview_Pages_from_Mu_r4_print.pdf
(no backslashes and only one "mu" directory)

Thanks, Chris.
The Dictionary of Mu references rules in Sorcery and Sword and the Sorcerer RPG is necessary for play.
Good call, I will e-mail Brennan tonight.
Thanks again for the info on the borked link.

Hello Judd,
Is this the right place to ask questions regarding the Dictionary of Mu, or do you have another forum for this purpose?
The books looks great.

I don't think Ron would mind me answering a few questions about the Dictionary here.
Ask away.

Hi Judd,
My main question is how much of "just a setting" is the Dictionary of Mu? Does Mu come with a set Humanity definition, and defined Gain Rolls and Loss Checks? Does it feature its own list of Descriptors and Covers/Pasts? Is sorcerous thinking and Lore defined, and what about the Rituals? In other words does Mu come with predefined one-sheet?
I will probably buy Mu as a "thank you" for all your fantastic AP posts and your amazing podcast, which both have greatly improved my own gaming, but I would still like to know what to expect.
TTFN,
Yoki

Hi there,
You can bet the first thing I booted Judd's posterior about, upon receiving the very first draft, was getting that kind of material onto paper. I was already gnashing my teeth because one of his players had somehow weaseled his way into playing a Japanese samurai (probably the
same
samurai the guy
always
plays).
The Dictionary is totally a one-sheet type book, much in the model of Charnel Gods or most of the other mini-supplements.
Best, Ron

Yeah, that was my first playtest, probably about four years ago. Painful.
But good, it taught me a whole bunch about descriptors and the how's and why's of 'em. It was a mistake but an important mistake.

It has all of those things but not the ritual descriptions. I don't describe rituals and I have found that after reading over their character description and two dictionary entries, players have no problems coming up with their own descriptions for how rituals work and what they look like. My con scenarios have always begun with the binding rolls and I often ask them to describe the binding of their demon, so I can also illustrate some Bonus Dice and the descriptions of how the demons are bound are always dark, vivid and evocative of the setting.

Yoki, believe, I love sales but buy it if it sounds like it is interesting to you and you'll play it.
If you want to say thank you, I appreciate it but an e-mail or PM just saying thanks is enough.
Give me the twenty bucks because you've looked at the example at the web site, think it is awesome and want to see more.
Thank you, Yoki.

The collision of Sorcerer and Sword and Judd's imagination have produced a beast of great consequence. As an illustration, I direct you to the pre-play developments in the game I'm running. Character sheets and a link to a thread full of preparation-thought and character detail, found here:
