Hello, I am an illustrator looking for various projects to keep myself busy in the winter months. I have an online portfolio up at www.harshweb.com , and would work for typical industry rates or do bids based on jobs. My pencil work is my strongest, but my digital color (not shown in port yet) is getting stronger daily. I will updated the port when I can release the projects I am working on now. Keep a watch on that space to see what developes over the next few months!
Please send any art requests or questions to Harsh_Inc@yahoo.com for more information. Thanks!

Ok, so It's been a while and I have had many 'lookers', but no comments or nibbles for artwork. Let's try another tact here. Since no one is interested in what I am currently offering, what can I do to sharpen my trade? What do you see in my artwork that could use some help?
This is not easy for me to say/ask, but since there have been precious few responces here, I guess I need to know what it is that game designers are looking for. Please help a guy out, yeah? Thanks.

Hi there,

Well, first, it hasn't been that long since your first post. Most of the publishers here keep a file or set of bookmarks on artists they find interesting, but that doesn't mean they contact them right away. The actual match-up to a project is a chancy thing; for instance, when I was putting Trollbabe together, I would have contacted you and worked something out. But that was a while ago. Maybe another project will come up, and I'll think, hey, what about that Harshbarger guy, and hunt up your link. The chance that the project, my window for considering art, and your first post all coincide is awfully small.

So, although it was perfectly OK for you to post the second time, my advice is to settle back and realize that the game creators' little minds are turning over their gears. You've put your stuff up for them to see, and the hope is that the match-up occurs eventually.

Also, if you're a role-player, then I suggest posting about your experiences in the Actual Play forum. If you include the link to your artwork page in your signature, then people who are interested in what you say will probably take a peek at your work too. But I only make this suggestion regarding posting honestly in those discussions; if you just chime in with empty posts in hopes of trolling for views, that won't work.

Best, Ron

Hey again,
I put up some new artwork at http://www.harshweb.com/Hosting%20Gallery.html, an assassin concept sketch.
http://www.harshweb.com/Hosting%20Gallery%202.html, a sea monster concept sketch,
and http://www.harshweb.com/Hosting%20Gallery%203.html, a digitally painted cover done up for the good people at Athas.org!

Any critiques and comments welcome. Job offers even more welcome!

Thanks!

Wow! That's a neat assassin, your pencil work is very good. I do have to say though, your colored work seems to lose that magic that makes your line work 'awesome!' I might try learning a digital median, or another median that lets you retain your excellent shading gradient and your fine details. I know coloring can be quite hard to master, but it's well worth the effort.

Thanks Dave. I have been learning a lot, and in the end I was advised to leave my pencil lines in the image to maximize the strength of my work. I have to admit I was unsure at first, but now it is growing on me. I feel like I have hit my stride finally.
Thanks for the advice. I seek only to get better, and it would be amazing to make a living solely as an artist, so any help/suggestions or critiques are more than welcome!
I will look into the median.

Your new colour is not only better, but even stunning.

Whereas I found your old colour smudged, your new colour is more than good, in my eyes.

I like the sharper colours of the goblins a bit more than the dreamier spread on the red-head.

Wow, thanks TG! That may be the most satisfying compliment I have ever had on my artwork. I have been working hard to reach my goals so thank you for the validation. I know that I have much more to learn and so much more art to produce. Stay tuned.

Guy's right, that's excellent work.  I'll make sure to point people to it if I find someone looking for an artist.

Hey all, I've been busy lately, but unfortunately everything is still under NDA at the moment. I am working on a couple projects, but looking ahead to the winter months and hoping to get some projects lined up for Dec. and Jan.

If you are working on a game and need artwork, look me up at www.harshweb.com.
I can offer you reasonable, high-quality interiors, strong story-telling and characterization, and even digitally painted covers!

Feel free to email also. Email listed on webpage. Thanks!
