This question is not, "Who is going?" or "Are you going?"

Nay, the question is, "What are you going to be doing while you're there?"

We (and by "we" I mean "someone else") should get something together, panel-wise, as part of a "Viva la RPG revoluton!" kinda deal. HEAR John Wick rant about the mainstream industry! SEE Ron Edwards draw up an off-the-cuff relationship map! FEEL the love as dozens gather to talk about indie gaming.

Also, is anyone planning to do the indie alley thing?

Too early to tell, but I may have to run a game of http://www.123.net/~czege/WFD.html">The World, the Flesh, and the Devil.

Also, is anyone planning to do the indie alley thing?

The event I'd most like to see is the Iron Chefs of Indie Game Design thing that got tossed around on Gaming Outpost last year.

Excellent point Son of Soren.

I think that attendance by the Forge contingent is likely to be as excellent as it was last year. The question is how to get really organized about it. Indeed, what shall we do? I think that we (and by "we" I mean Jared) should begin by creating an organization and appointing some leadership. That organization can then get the ball rolling on planning activities. It's good that you thought to start this early, Jared, we can be really set by the Con if we start now.

If I might make a suggestion, it would be cool if we could organize it under the auspices of The Forge. Gamesmiths of The Forge? Hmmm... too pretentious? But you get my drift. As The Forge is THE Indie gaming site, this would make an eminent amount of sense to me.

Yeah, whatever did happen with that? I'm totally on board with Iron game Chef.

I am going to  spend a point of magic this year on "Convention" rituals, to aid my clan in reaching that Holiest of Gaming Events.

(says Nathan, playing way too much King of Dragon Pass lately)

But yeah, great idea Jared. I need to research the Gencon booth costs, but I would love to participate in indie alley too... Of course, it would be more financially feasible if I shared with someone, which I would be more than grateful to do... I am better when pitching other folks' products anyway.. *cough*

A sort of panel event would be great w/ peanut butter on crackers.. heh.. Gaming is the biggest thing - we should have a ton of gaming going on... Free stuff is great...

Cool, yeah..

Hey,

Way ahead of you guys. Various evil beings are already colluding about the Plan.

Suffice to say that at least two booths and possibly more shall be devoted to the Creator-Owned Role-playing Cause, with Adept Press and potentially others sharing the space. Sneaky deals regarding Adept Press and exhibitor badges will be offered as before. Interesting plans for ongoing play at the booths are afoot.

All I ask of folks now is that they be willing to attend and to consider WORKING the booth space if they want. (Tasks will be somewhat more demanding than last year and more organized; it won't be just about Adept Press but about the whole shebang.)(Therefore money issues, namely paying for your badges, will be taken more seriously than last year too.)

Best,
Ron

CORC?

All I know is that I want something to happen. Last year was fun but I missed out on damn near everything (save Matt Forbeck's b-day party and the White Wolf party, Forbeck's party being the only one of note). Of course, I was also buried in the back... anyway, I hope the notables from last year will be able to afford an attendance and getting something together with Ron, Wick, Jared, Gentry, Neff, Sean, Holmes, Mazza (?), etc would be tres swoot.

Why not have a Forge booth at GenCon 02? Or Origins? Why not both? I've projected my budget for the next con season, and I have discovered to my great joy that I will be able to attend exactly ONE major convention. By major, I mean one requiring sleeping in a hotel room or car, and not seeing anything but games for upwards of 100 hours. This is very different from the last 7-10 years, where I have only been able to attend those conventions that cost less than $5 to attend and are within an hours drive of my home. The only thing that scares me is the amount of damage my budget will take when I hit the dealers room.... yikes...

I'm worried about hotel rooms.  A whole lot of cool shit went down after hours in the hotel rooms, and I was stuck out in BFE, away from all the action.  At the very least, I want to be able to walk to the damned Safe House!

Ron, Paul, Jared, John...let me know where you guys are staying and when you're hooking those rooms up (okay, that's a stupid question - Ron and John most likely have their rooms already).  I want in on it, and I'm sure Matt does as well.

I might make it over again this year. Not promising anything though. We'll see how long I can stand working in IT, and if I can score free accomm off Hogshead...

Excellent idea, Sen of Soren  {note to Mike  :wink:}

I would help with this except I detest gatherings, abhor crowds, and hate people. Otherwise I'd do what I could to help this.

Hmmm...  I'd probably just sabotage the effort.  Probably a good thing I'm not going.

Besides, I'm in line with GMS's thinking of GenCon and would rather attend one not owned and operated by a particular publisher, especially the one that has a stranglehold on the market.

If I thought there'd be any chance of success, I'd suggest an IndieCon or something similar, but the point of this thread is who is going to the established Con to bring the indie-punk influence to the masses, not to start our own Con and see if anyone shows up.

Well, Origins, as far as I know, is not run by the publisher with a stranglehold on the market. I think, if memory serves me correctly, they gave it to GAMA...

Well... I wouldn't say "gave it" to GAMA. WOTC wiggled out of the contract and it defaulted back to GAMA. Despite the supposedly poor turnout last year, Origins is a sweet con and I would love for it to gain in popularity. With 2002 being GenCon's last year in Milwaukee, though, doing something to commemorate the event would be very nice.

Actually, I was planning on trying to get the money together to fly over there for a few days for GenCon.
Saw Final Destination yesterday though. I'm not so keen anymore after that planecrash.

It'll probably cost me a kidney, but hey...

I'll be there, selling the professional / printed version of Dead Meat... And giving away a bunch of photocopied stuff. I have access to a massive copier, so before GC'02, a couple of you free game folks should send me copies to make for the con... Some 5.5 x 8.5 ashcan format books would be nice, WYRDs' ashcan is great... I plan on doing 2PAM that way, tho it'll be 4PAM by then.

Ron, you mention this is already in the works. I'm willing to work the booth again next year, and chip in for part of it so I can sell my game as well. I'll be there to work the booth more than I was this year as well. Give us some details, man! Are you and the Wickster planning the mega-booth you hinted at the end of the con this year?

Sean

P.S. I plan on running games of both Dead Meat and 2PAM next year as well.
